What’s inside a note

A finished note holds three things.
  • One-page document: A summary that organizes the whole conversation by key topic. It’s written so that even someone who missed the meeting can catch up by reading this alone. It’s generated automatically when the recording ends.
  • Note: Paragraph summaries that build up live during recording. Once enough sentences accumulate, they’re grouped into a paragraph, and after the paragraph splits off, it’s refined to a higher quality.
  • Transcript: The full text written down exactly as it was spoken. If you turned on speaker diarization, speaker tags are attached here too.
If you don’t need the one-page document generated automatically, go to [Settings][Preferences][Auto-generate after recording] and turn the switch off, or deselect the summary and custom document templates you don’t want.

Editing the content

You can edit the Note and transcript yourself at any time. When you spot a misheard word or name, click that paragraph and fix it on the spot. Your edits carry over to any document you generate afterward.

Fix every occurrence of a misheard word

If the same word was transcribed incorrectly several times, you can find and replace every occurrence in the web and desktop apps. Start with the note in full view.
  1. Open the note you want to edit from the note list.
  2. If the note opens in the preview panel on the right, click [Open in full view]. In the desktop app, you can also press Ctrl + Enter; on Mac, press Cmd + Enter. On the web, this shortcut works only while focus is outside the editor. When the text cursor is in the editor, the editor handles Enter instead, so click [Open in full view].
  3. In full view, press Ctrl + F to open note search. On Mac, press Cmd + F.
  4. Choose where to search. Select all scopes to search throughout the note.
  5. Enter the misheard word and review the matches.
  6. Open word editing, enter the correction, and choose the option that replaces every match. Every matching word in the selected scopes is updated at once.
Pressing Ctrl + F or Cmd + F in the preview does not open Tiro’s note search. Switch to full view first.
After replacing every match, an undo button appears for 15 seconds. Participants with the VIEWER role can search, but cannot edit or replace words.

Creating a custom document

When you need a specific format beyond the default summary, like meeting minutes, an interview write-up, or lecture notes, click the [Generate Document] button.
  1. In a note where recording has ended, click the [Generate Document] button.
  2. Pick one of Tiro’s built-in templates or a template you made yourself, and the conversation is organized into a document in that format.
  3. If you edited the transcript or want to regenerate it in another language or format, the regenerate button lets you create a fresh version anytime.
For how to build your own template in the format you want, see Templates.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between the Note and the transcript?

The transcript is the full text written down exactly as spoken, while the Note summarizes that content paragraph by paragraph. Read the Note to skim quickly through anything you missed, and the transcript to check exactly what was said.

I can’t find the Generate Document button.

A custom document can be created only after recording has ended. If you’ve ended the recording and still don’t see it, try refreshing the page.

The one-page document isn’t generated automatically.

Check the [Auto-generate after recording] switch under [Settings][Preferences] and make sure it’s on with the [One-Pager] template selected in the list there. Even if it isn’t selected, you can create a document anytime with the [Generate Document] button.

The paragraph summary feels off at first but gets better later.

That’s expected. During recording, Tiro creates a quick interim summary, and once the paragraph is complete, it reworks the content into a higher quality.
