Check which version you’re on

The [About] tab at the bottom of the desktop app’s settings sidebar shows the version you’re running.
  • Your version number appears under [Current Version].
  • If an update button appears, click it. The app restarts and applies the new version.

Update to the latest version

Use the following path to check for the latest version.
  • Mac: [Tiro] in the menu bar at the top of the screen → [Check for Updates…]
  • Windows: Tiro icon at the top left of the window → [File] → [Check for Updates…]
If you’re current, a dialog shows your current version. If a new version is available, the app downloads the update and the same menu item changes to [Restart to Apply Update]. Click it to restart the app and apply the new version.

When an update won’t apply

1

Check for updates from the menu

On Mac, choose [Tiro] in the menu bar at the top of the screen → [Check for Updates…]. On Windows, choose the Tiro icon at the top left of the window → [File] → [Check for Updates…]. If a new version is available, wait for the download to finish and click [Restart to Apply Update].
2

Fully quit the app, then relaunch it

On both Mac and Windows, closing the window with the X button doesn’t quit the app. On Mac, press Cmd+Q or choose [Tiro] in the menu bar → [Quit Tiro]. On Windows, right-click the Tiro icon in the system tray and choose [Quit Tiro Completely]. Then relaunch the app.

Still stuck? Reinstall the app

If the in-app update doesn’t work, delete the existing app and install the latest version from the download page. Your notes are stored on the server, so they won’t disappear when you reinstall.
On Windows, if a SmartScreen warning appears when you run the installer, click [More info] → [Run]. The Mac installer is universal for Intel and Apple Silicon, so the same download works on any model.

Frequently asked questions

Will updating delete my notes?

No. Your notes are stored on the server, so they’re all there when you log in after an update or reinstall. One exception: audio files you saved to your device with local audio storage can be removed when you delete the app, so back them up first if you need them.

Could a sudden login failure be caused by my app version?

Yes. Older versions can have login problems. Follow the steps above to update the app. If that doesn’t help, delete the app and install it again.
